What is a Relay For Life?
The Relay For Life is a 18 hour celebration of life in honor and in memory of those whose lives have been touched by cancer.
Teams of 8 - 15 people will walk, jog, or run taking turns in relay fashion around a track for 16 hours. Teams come together
for one goal - to raise money through pledges to help in the fight against cancer. Spectators are invited to attend.
Luminaria Ceremony....
Highlighting the event is a special ceremony honoring cancer survivors and remembering those we've lost. A Luminaria is a candle set into
a special white paper bag filled with sand. Luminarias are purchased in memory of someone who has passed away from cancer or in honor of someone who has won the battle against cancer. The name of the person you are honoring
is printed on the bag with any inscriptions you wish to have written. When the candle is lit, it illuminates the area around it radiating a soft body of light and highlights your words of love and support.
I walked around a track today:
I walked to help a disease go away.
I walked because there is a need;
I walked that bodies could be freed.
I walked to give a small child hope;
I walked to help someone cope.
I walked for a husband or a wife;
I walked to help prolong a life.
I walked with my head held high;
I walked for that one about to die.
I walked excitedly not demure;
I walked to help find a cure.
I walked for everyone to see,
I walked for you, I walked for me.
